Understanding Black Friday consumer trends

In an ever-evolving digital world, selecting the right technology partner is critical – and complex. Whether you’re looking to launch a new platform, integrate with existing systems or build something from scratch, the stakes are high. Get it wrong, and it could cost your business time, money and credibility.

First, assess your internal needs

Before you even start conversations with agencies or developers, look inward. What problems are you trying to solve? What does the future of your business look like? Do you have internal tech capacity, or do you need full-scale support – from strategy to execution?

Get clear on your infrastructure, capabilities and strategic priorities. Think about:

  • The business objective behind the tech
  • Whether it’s a custom build or integration
  • The platforms and systems your business already uses
  • Who will use the final product – internally and externally
  • Your timelines, budget and who controls them

Then, choose your partner wisely

Not all service providers are partners. Vendors take briefs and deliver to spec. Partners are invested in your success and evolve with your needs. Here’s a checklist to help you find the right fit:

  • Strategic ability: Do they ask smart questions and challenge assumptions? Do they understand your industry and customer journey? Look for UX and research capabilities and a long-term mindset.
  • Cultural fit: Are they curious about your business and invested in your goals? Chemistry sessions can help gauge alignment. You’re entering a relationship, not a transaction.
  • Ways of working: How do they manage projects and prioritise work? Ask about team structure, communication cadence, SLAs and how they handle bumps in the road.
  • Tech stack and expertise: Do they have specialists – from UX to frontend to cloud? Can they walk you through their frameworks and previous projects? Have they worked with businesses like yours?
  • Transparent pricing: Pricing should be easy to understand, with clear estimates and flexibility where needed. A good partner can often combine custom and no-code solutions to stretch your budget.
  • Testimonials and references: Look for detailed case studies and, ideally, direct access to former or current clients. Transparency is a good sign.
  • Resourcing and timelines: Do they have the capacity to prioritise your project? Will you get the right team – not just whoever’s available? Ask about workload, freelancers and delivery models.
